13-Year-Old Francis Poulmaire qualifies for AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open PRO AM 2017

Impressed by his performance, Francis Poulmaire, a 13-year-old golf enthusiast of, has won the PRO AM qualifying tournament last Saturday 12th August at the Four Seasons Golf Club at Anahita. Francis took the first place ahead of Patrick Ng in a highly challenged competition.

Over 60 golfers gathered on the golf course at Anahita to qualify for the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open PRO AM series. As expected, the game was impressive and offered the enthusiasts a high quality appointment whilst awaiting the grand tournament. Young star Francis Poulmaire won with a score of 42 points followed by Patrick Ng, who finished with a score of 39 points. Shyam Surat completed the podium with a total of 38 points. Elri Usendorff topped the chart in the women category with a score of 34 points while Thierry Millet won the nearest to the pin contest.


“It was not the best of my game today. The weather was fairly changeable but at last it turned out well. You just have to fight and accept that in this game perfection does not exist, either you win or you learn. I thank AfrAsia Bank for this exceptional event, "said Francis, all in smiles after receiving the trophy from Thierry Vallet, the General Manager of AfrAsia Bank.

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is the only golf tournament in the world endorsed by European, Asian and Sunshine Tours. The overall purse of the tournament is 1 million euros, the highest ever paid for a tournament in Mauritius. A field of 136 players including the top 40 of the three tours will meet for a 72-hole stroke-play championship at the Heritage Golf Club. The scores obtained will count for the Individual Order of Merits of the Tours, including the Dubai Race and the Official World Golf Ranking. This tournament is broadcasted worldwide and reaches over 400 million viewers. South Africa's George Coetzee won the Open AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open which was played at the Heritage Golf Club in 2015 and Jeunghun Wang from South Korea took the 2016 title.
