Burmester thrilled to make Mauritius field
KITWE (Zambia), April 23, 2015 – The three-time winner on the Sunshine Tour was thrilled to be added to the field for the first tournament sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour, European Tour and Asian Tour. “It’s the first tournament of its kind, and just to be part of it is a massive privilege,” he said.
It will be Burmester’s first trip to Mauritius, and he intends making the most of his opportunity. “I’m looking forward to taking my wife up to such a beautiful place and to playing on a fantastic golf course,” he said.
“A lot of players who have been to Heritage say it’s a very tight course, so I’m looking forward to getting out there on Tuesday to prepare properly. I think I’ll give myself a bit of a holiday while I’m there, but after I have done my work. But I can see that the work might not be as hard as I normally put in,” he added.
With his victory in the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open on April 9, his game is clearly in pretty good shape right now in any case. “I feel like I’m playing well, but anyone on tour will tell you that the switch can be flicked on you at any time,” he said. “I think the difference for me right now is that something has clicked for me mentally.
“After I played the South African Open championship with a broken thumb and still made the cut, things turned. After I recovered, my mind was just in the right place. And I worked hard on my putting, and that’s something that’s come right.”
That’s good news for him ahead of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, which will mark an exciting week of golf for players and fans.
Three of the tournament sponsors have also put up special prizes to make the tournament even more exciting. Villas Valriche, has offered a US$1-million Villa for the first professional golfer who shoots an eagle on the par-four 423-metre 17th hole, on the final day of the tournament. Jaguar, the official vehicle sponsor has on offer an all new Jaguar XE R-Sport, for an albatross scored on the Saturday and Sunday schedule of play. The Heritage Resorts have also offered a five-night stay in a double room at the Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Spa Resort, on a half board basis for every hole in one scored on the par-three 164-metre 15th hole.
Sponsors for the event include AfrAsia Bank, Rogers, Heritage Resorts, Heritage Golf Club, Domaine de Bel Ombre, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Air Mauritius, Anahita, Villas Valriche, and Jaguar.
