South African Johannes Markus Erne wins entry to lauded AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open PRO-AM
The winner of the day was Warwick Sneider on 45 points. But, the grand prize was snagged by Johannes Markus Erne who won an all-expenses paid trip to Mauritius, and an opportunity to participate in the PRO-AM taking place on 13 December 2023.
An AfrAsia Bank client, Erne said at the awards ceremony that the day was “relaxed and friendly, much like the island of Mauritius and the experience of banking with AfrAsia. I’m delighted to have won and look forward to playing with some of the world’s best golfers, in Mauritius.”
Leading the prize giving, Pierre-Yves Pascal, Head of Private Banking at AfrAsia Bank said, “Mauritius is the international financial centre for Africa. From there, our clients can invest anywhere in the world. At the heart of our branding strategy is the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. This year is our seventh edition and is taking place on a brand-new golf course, which we are very excited about.”
The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and PRO-AM – known as ‘golf’s most beautiful week’ – will be held at La Reserve Golf Links, designed by Peter Matkovich and Louis Oosthuizen. La Réserve Golf Links will be the fourth new host course in the seventh edition of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open as the tournament continues to support the tourism objectives of Mauritius.
Oosthuizen has confirmed his participation, alongside reigning champion Antoine Rozner, and German golfer Marcel Siem. The overall prize pool for the tournament stands at $1.2 million, the highest sum ever paid out for a tournament in Mauritius. The tournament occupies an even more prominent place in the Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour schedules as part of a newly created Opening Swing of events that usher in the DP World Tour’s new season.
Pierre-Yves Pascal adds that AfrAsia Bank leverages the Mauritian International Finance Centre to bridge the Africa-Asia corridor with the rest of the world. “With our deep knowledge of key Mauritian financial structures, and our entrepreneurial approach, coupled with our passion for golf, we are able to offer bespoke off-shore investment solutions for our high net-worth clients.”
Colin Grieve, Chief Representative Officer at AfrAsia Bank, South Africa said on the day that high net-worth individuals and corporates know the Bank to be an experienced provider of structured solutions that enable international diversification of wealth.
“Our aim is to support our clients from the time they set their financial ambitions to the time they achieve them. We do this by leveraging our experience with the southern and eastern African business and economic environments, our financial acumen, and our diverse expertise. In an increasingly integrated and changing world, we are passionate about ensuring that our clients’ financial exposure is not limited to just one currency and country.”
“As we continue our expansion in South Africa, I would like to extend a special thanks to Roche Bobois, Harmonie Golf & Beach Estate and Phoenix Beverages who shared a preview of what the most beautiful week of golf in Mauritius looks like at Steyn city, added Pierre-Yves Pascal.”
