AfrAsia Foundation’s Emergency Aid Support Programme – More than MUR 570,000 donated to 154 families
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, solidarity remains key to lifting the veil of poverty and food insecurity. Launched during the 2020 lockdown, the AfrAsia Foundation Emergency Aid Support Programme has once again extended its support to the community.
Over the past year, AfrAsia Foundation has, through this programme, donated more than MUR 570,000 worth of basic food and non-food baskets to 154 families, underpinning its commitment to go beyond an educational sphere to help the underprivileged children affiliated with the AfrAsia School and the NGO Ti Rayons Soleil.
The ongoing support, in guise of basic food supplies, baby must-haves and hygiene necessities, has also been made possible through ‘Sponsor an AfrAsiakid program’ and financial aid received from collaborators. “The AfrAsia Foundation Emergency Aid Support Program has enabled us to set up a “Food Bank” last year to provide a key assistance to the families of the AfrAsia kids living in vulnerable conditions. With the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic, we strived to ensure a minimal disruption in our initiatives to reach out to these families so they can continue to benefit from our assistance. This year, we are grateful to collaborate with the NGO Livinia Foundation who significantly helped us with the food distribution whilst respecting the sanitary protocols established by the authorities.” highlighted Sonia Marmitte Rajah, Manager of AfrAsia School.
“The past year has heightened the meaning of solidarity for everyone. I believe the most valuable lesson for us has been the fact that we can choose to help individually but, undeniably, we achieve so much more by coming together. I am grateful that the AfrAsia Foundation and AfrAsia Bank have received a great response from our teams, clients and partners who have joined our pledge to collectively serve our community in times when it needs us the most. Moreover, I wish to thank our collaborators and AfrAsia Kids sponsors for their continued support in helping us to shape a World of Difference.” commented Thierry Vallet, Interim CEO of AfrAsia Bank.
The AfrAsia Foundation Emergency Aid Support Programme invites financial contribution from the public at large and more information is available on the AfrAsia COVID-19’s Community Response page here: https://www.afrasiabank.com/en/about/donate-for-covid-19
